Well it takes the ‘journey from hell’ at my last Wales Comic Con visit, to make my wife Helen drive me there and back. It would be the First Time Comic Con for her and see the joy I have in going to Cons. She went as my Carer, so was able to go at no extra cost.

Having a Carer, allowed me as a disabled wheelchair user to find it easier and less stressful. She enabled me in my photo shoots; negotiate getting around and help me cope with my fatigue by not having to worry about things.

Even if your Carer isn’t interested in subjects offered by Comic Cons, Cosplayer efforts in creating their costumes should peak their curiosity. From meeting old Comic Con friends to making new friends, collecting autographs and having photo shoots with guests; and interacting with Cosplayers, Helen would see what Comic Cons means to me.

The Magic of Cosplay: A World of Compliments

The thing that Helen couldn’t fathom was the interaction with complete strangers who were in Cosplay. Sharing an experience with other like minded people allows for some who are introvert to open up and become someone else. They then enjoy being able to openly interact with other individuals.

And, then there are those who are really into the art of making costumes of characters from; comics, games, films and TV. The bolder the better, I’ve seen suits ranging from ‘Iron Man’ to ‘Gears Of War’.

Then there is taking photos with Cosplayers. Helen didn’t understand why anyone would want pictures with strangers.

Again, I told her it was part of the experience. If one took the effort to emulate a favourite character, then having others acknowledge it is a compliment.

And, getting compliments is what it’s all about.

Surprising Discoveries at Comic Con: Wonders Unfold

Well Helen enjoyed her first Comic Con, even though it was a long day. She even says she’ll go again, which surprised me. Didn’t think it would be her thing. She would even contemplate going in Cosplay. Really?

Well, the next day she was trolling through websites for ideas on costumes. Her only stipulation was we would both have to be in Cosplay together, and her costume wouldn’t need to be lavish just stand out in the crowd.

Will wonders never cease?
